With early voting right around the corner, It is time to make final decisions on candidates. Amongst the contested statewide races, none is more important than making the right choice to replace retiring U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison. And in that race, the clear choice to represent Texas is … [Read More...]
Harris County DA race: Politics in the courtroom? Say it ain’t so, Mike Anderson!
May 17, 2012 By David Jennings 4 Comments
Lots of stuff happening in the Harris County DA's race but this one I didn't expect. I mean, when I saw the ad from Mike Anderson, I thought it was a fake courtroom. But mi Amiga Felicia Cravens, earning her nickname Something Fishie, figured out that it was a real courtroom and started asking around. Not getting any answers, she filed an official complaint against Mike: Public Property, Private Use I'm tired of seeing ethical lapses brushed aside with an "Oh, well. Nothing you can … [Read More...]
Harris County Republican Primary Endorsement Comparison
May 16, 2012 By David Jennings 10 Comments
Just for grins and giggles, I decided to put a few of the endorsement lists popular in the Republican primary in a matrix to compare them. Well, that and it will be useful to measure their effectiveness after the election, as I did before. Will Terry Lowry and the Link Letter keep the crown for highest winning percentage? In addition to the pay to play’rs, I added in my actual votes, Rhymes with Right’s recommendations since we have the same ballot, and the Kingwood Tea Party's … [Read More...]
Harris County County Attorney race: Robert Talton
May 15, 2012 By David Jennings 5 Comments
A lot of people overlook this race because they really don't know what the County Attorney's role is. Basically, the District Attorney in Harris County handles all of the criminal matters. The County Attorney handles all of the civil matters, including legal advice, eminent domain cases, suits against the county, employment suits, corruption charges, etc. Republicans have an opportunity this year to put someone in that office that isn't afraid to handle corruption cases. The current … [Read More...]
CD36, SD11, HD129: Mike Jackson, Daniel McCool, John Davis

Choices, choices. Completing the legislative part of my ballot out here in the City of Shoreacres, I’ll be voting for the following in this year's Republican Primary: Congressional District 36: Easy one – Mike Jackson. He ain’t a flashy rhetorical conservative like the ones so popular these days but you can count on Mike to vote conservative. Small business owner, very active in the community, and he mows his own grass! My kind of guy. Seriously, I see him out riding his mower every … [Read More...]
Harris County Sheriff: Louis Guthrie is my choice
May 11, 2012 By David Jennings Leave a Comment
This is an interesting race. With the exception of one candidate, everyone has been positive and running on their own merit. And even that candidate is positive in public appearances, using surrogates to slime his opponents in the background. But when you finally sort through the records, two guys stand out: Louis Guthrie and Harold Heuszel. And in my view, Louis Guthrie emerges as a clear choice for Harris County voters. As we have discussed previously, Louis Guthrie was a high achiever and … [Read More...]
Harris County DA Race: Republicans should re-elect Pat Lykos
May 11, 2012 By David Jennings 7 Comments
It is time to make a choice. Early voting starts Monday, here are the locations and times. If you have not made up your mind about the Harris County District Attorney, perhaps I can help. I'm voting for Judge Pat Lykos and here is why. Justice. First and foremost, that is the word that pushed, pulled, and shoved me from my position as an observer of the race to a fierce supporter of Judge Pat Lykos. Justice is more than allowing our law enforcement officers to arrest anyone at any time for … [Read More...]

With early voting right around the corner, It is time to make final decisions on candidates. Amongst the contested statewide races, none is more important than making the right choice to replace retiring U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison. And in that race, the clear choice to represent Texas is current Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst. Mind you, this wasn't an "easy" choice, although in the end it was a clear choice. Former Dallas Mayor Tom Leppert is a tremendously skilled businessman and proved that … [Read More...]
Harris County Republican Party – know your candidates – Richard Johnson
May 9, 2012 By David Jennings 3 Comments
The financial problems at the Harris County Republican Party are well known and documented. What isn’t so well known is that because of those financial problem, anyone with a thousand bucks to spare (or $83.33 per month) gets to put a label by their name that says they are a part of the party’s “Leadership Council”. Now, between you, me, and the fencepost, that is a meaningless “council” but for people not familiar with the program, that label gives them a false confidence in the … [Read More...]
Harris County Sheriff candidate Louis Guthrie wins appeal
May 6, 2012 By David Jennings 6 Comments
I told you earlier that it had been a good week for Louis Guthrie. In addition to winning the poll taken after the Harris County DA Debate this past Thursday, Mr. Guthrie finally sees a light at the end of the dark tunnel that current Harris County Sheriff Adrian Garcia put him in for the past three years. Judge Caroline Baker (a great person, btw) overturned the decision of the Civil Service Commission that upheld Guthrie's politically motivated firing. Press release from Louis … [Read More...]
Harris County DA Debate Straw Poll Results
May 5, 2012 By David Jennings Leave a Comment
Just for fun, I slipped an unannounced straw poll ballot into the hands of the attendees at Thursday night's Harris County Republican Party Primary District Attorney debate. I didn't announce it because the popular thing to do with straw polls is for a candidate to ask their supporters to come out and stack the poll. Obviously, the supporters of the DA candidates were there but beyond that, there were no coordinated campaigns. The other thing that has become popular is to sell tickets to your … [Read More...]
